Terrible run but just wanted to make it through ...had leg surgery to have veins removed 6 weeks prior.

Nice job on the marathon. Even if it was slower than you'd hoped for, it's still a marathon. Keep up the good work!

Thanks Burt,

Yes a bit slower I am normally in the 3:35 to 3:45 range but had two Blood clots (superficial) removed from my calf along with vericose veins 6 weeks ago....27 incisions(: and trying to ramp the training hurt my achilles so I justwanted to get through it as it was my 5th this year and heading to disney for the goofy challenge in early January...

Thanks for the support and I will add you to my bloggers list if I figure out how::))

Used the Eliptical for a steady 10 mile workout ...circuit trained ..and then did some speed work in the pool.....Maybe an afternoon run:)

Ok so I did run 5 this afternoon but just easy......

Tom,

Looks like you are getting the website down just fine. I have been using the site for about two years and love it! It gives me a sense of accountability...maybe I am less disciplined than others and need a website to do it, but whatever works right?

I appreciate your comments about Rome. I would love to know anything and everything about the course. Can you remember how much was on cobblestone? No significant hills? Anyway, I appreciate your help and look forward to seeing your posts!

Tom--You are right about being a great place to share and get feedback on all kinds of stories. I imagine based on my past six months that I may have some overuse injury stories to share in the next year as I aim for a Boston qualifying time. I want to push but stay healthy. Hard balance for me to achieve.

Hi Kevin,

I like this site but have trouble navigating....I am trying to add you as a blogger but with no luck...I added one person fine but cant get you on there...Anyway My injuries in regards to blood clots and veins are not overuse...my achilles problem was only because I tried to add some quick long runs in before philly... I have found that crosstraining helps because I used to injure often...I now as a member of a brand new YMCA use the Eliptical, bike , and alot of swimming and some weight training but mostly light and circuit type not heavy free weights....

It also helps control my weight and keep me between 180- 190...I am now trying to focus on more speed work (yasso 800's) and cross training rather than just long runs.... I will qualify just needs to be the right race.....training...weather etc...

Looks like a "return" between each blog name may work.

My weight has not been an issue since I started running again (I am 160-165). My overuse injuries have included iliotibial band, etc. I am making a conscious effort to try to mix in more cross training as I get ready for "Baltimore Round 2" (in other words the Baltimore marathon this fal). I ran the Philly Rock n Roll ING Half last September and will probably avoid that this coming year. I love the sped work but find that a lot of things act up if I push too much speed work too quickly. I suppose there is no surprise there but the key for me is to figure out how to go faster without injury.

let's face it burt, allie is a lot of people's number 1 favorite. all we can do is sit back and wish that we were that cool...

(keep up the good work, quacky; long runs in cold weather are good physical and mental training...)
